What are the Azure AD Deployment Options?

petergroft
Azure AD deployment options refer to the different ways in which Azure AD can be deployed to meet an organization’s identity and access management needs. Here are the three main deployment options for Azure AD:

Cloud-only deployment: With a cloud-only deployment, Azure AD is used as a standalone cloud service, and all user identities and authentication are managed in the cloud. This is a good option for small businesses that do not have an on-premises directory or for those that do not want to maintain an on-premises directory.

Hybrid deployment: With a hybrid deployment, Azure AD is integrated with an organization’s existing on-premises directory, such as Active Directory (AD). This allows organizations to extend their existing identity infrastructure to the cloud and provides a unified identity for both cloud and on-premises resources.

On-premises deployment: With an on-premises deployment, Azure AD is installed on a server on the organization’s premises. This option is typically used by organizations that have strict security or compliance requirements or that have limited internet connectivity.

The choice of deployment option depends on various factors, including an organization’s size, IT infrastructure, security requirements, and budget. Organizations should carefully evaluate the pros and cons of each option before making a decision.
